National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) held a ground breaking ceremony for its three new towers to be built at the NICVD, opposite Jinnah Hospital. The event host, Syed Qaim Ali Shah, the chief minister of Sindh, along with the NICVD officials, Trustees of the NICVD Welfare Trust and The Cardiovascular Foundation and other dignitaries participated in the ground breaking ceremony. Syed Qaim Ali Shah also appreciated the individuals present at the event and requested to make more contributions to this worthy cause.
The construction work is expected to begin in late June or early July and last 3 years. It will be done in phases to create new space so departments can move into those new areas and vacate existing areas to allow for renovations. The construction includes expansion into a new OPD, a paediatric cardiac institute, extension of the current emergency room and a new tower. All this expansion is intended to double the existing capacity and cater to world class patient care at highly subsidised rates. Ms Azra Maqsood, COO of the NICVD, said, "There are many people to thank who worked diligently to see the project through to this point. The NICVD expansion for us means round-the-clock, excellent patient care across the city, and nationally".
