Jamaat-e-Islamani (JI), Karachi, in an exceptional move on Wednesday, launched a vigorous drive against the K-Electric (KE) through holding an hour long peaceful demonstration and sit-in outside the KE head office in Karachi. The demonstration was held in a situation when there is an acute outcry over the misdeeds of KE's administration and it is largely being accused for worsening the situation during summer.
Recently the metropolis has witnessed widespread and long power outages during recent heat-wave that claimed more than 1200 lives in the city's history. A large number of people participated in protest, including the representative of traders and civil society, as well as local residents of the adjoining areas.
Addressing the protestors, JI leaders said, corrupt politicians who are sheltering and supporting the worst policies, and they are responsible for the miseries of more than 20 million people of city. They said that the KE transform the city of lights into the city of darkness. The majority of the populace of the city has been facing a continuous mental and physical trauma; it is owing to KE's mismanagement and politicians.
Referring to the KE's support by the armed wings of some so-called political parties, JI leaders said that those so-called contractors of the city are hands in gloves with the KE and added that they indeed fueled the already deteriorating situation. JI leaders raised questions on monitory affairs of the entity and held responsible the administration and politicians who are supporting the illegal moves of KE. JI Karachi Chief Eng Hafiz Naeem and several other leaders also addressed the demonstration. They announced to further escalate the campaign against the KE after Eid-ul-Fitar.
