Japan's crude imports tumble to 50-year low for month of June

TOKYO: Japan's crude oil imports last month fell 14.7 percent from a year earlier to 2.4 million barrels per day (bpd), or 11.43 million kilolitres, the lowest volumes for the month of June since 1968, monthly trade ministry data showed on Tuesday.

Japan's total oil product sales in June fell 8.8 percent from a year ago to 2.46 million bpd, reflecting a dwindling population and the introduction of more efficient vehicles.

Japan imported Angsi crude last month from Malaysia for the first time since September 2014, a METI official said.
