Following Pakistan Meteorically Department (PMD) weather advisory that Cyclonic conditions are developing in the Arabian Sea, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued directives to all the relevant departments to take preventive measures along with the costal belt of Sindh and Balochistan provinces.
The NDMA has already issued necessary instructions to all concerned about the expected cyclone and for taking all necessary pre-emptive measures under respective jurisdictions to avoid any loss of lives and damage to public as well as private property, said a statement issued here on Monday.
As per Pakistan Meteorological Department, cyclonic conditions have developed with deep depression over east-central Arabian Sea. The meteorological conditions are being constantly monitored by the PMD which indicate that the system has intensified further into a Tropical Cyclone (01A) and presently centered at around Lat 18.0N and Long 67.5E which is about 750 km South of Karachi. This Tropical Cyclone is anticipated to move North-north-westward in next 24 hours. In view of this the sea conditions from Monday 8 June to Friday 12 June along Sindh-Makran coast are likely to remain rough and very rough associated with strong storm winds.
Under the influence of this system, Rain/Thundershowers are expected in Karachi, Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Tharparker, Thatta, Badin and Sujawal districts of lower Sindh in next 24-48 hours and after 36 hours in South Balochistan. The NDMA in co-ordination with the PDMA Sindh, Balochistan and other relevant agencies is ensuring all precautionary measures including, issuance of early warnings on regular basis to the Fishermen for them not to venture in open sea till Friday 12 June. The NDMA has also advised the civil/local administration to ensure that people should refrain from swimming in the sea & issue regular forecasts and warnings to people, ships, ports etc removal of advertisement hoarding or making arrangements to secure the same. The NDMA has also advised relevant District Disaster Management Authorities to proactively engage with the locals for the implementation of precautionary measures in the respective areas and has also directed to place all Rescue agencies on high alert in the areas likely to be impacted for prompt response in case of any eventuality.
The NDMA through activation of its National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC) is constantly monitoring the situation well in co-ordination with all concerned departments including in particular PMD Islamabad headquarter and its Tsunami Warning Centre at Karachi, PDMA Sindh, PDMA Balochistan, DDMAs of districts vulnerable to the Cyclone, Pakistan Army and Navy to ensure that all necessary precautionary measures remain are intact to avoid any loss of life besides damage to public as well as private property. NDMA's NEOC shall remain in operation on round the clock basis till the time the situation subsides.
