SC hears number of election related petitions

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court heard a number of election related petitions. Rana Asif Tauseef of PTI was allowed to contest elections from NA 105 Faisalabad as the apex court dismissed Lahore High Court's disqualification decision against him.

The petitions of independent candidates Chaudhry Javed Akhtar and Haji Behram Khan seeking permission to contest elections were dismissed on various grounds.

Meanwhile,hearing Katas Raj case, the Supreme Court said the cement factories in Chakwal did not pay a single penny for the use of water. Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar pointed out that the factories used water worth billions of rupees but did not voluntarily return any amount.

He said the factories will be charged amount for the water they used which will be deposited in the account opened for construction of dams.
