Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Imdad Ali Ismaili said on Sunday efforts were being made to make the Sindh University (SU) a distinguished institution in the region recognised for its global perspective and diverse and supportive learning environment, besides having international reputation in research and creative discovery.
Academic excellence was top priority of his administration, he said, adding that it had provided modern facilities and suitable environment to the teachers and students. He was addressing the participants of two different MPhil seminars of information Technology here at his office.
Both the scholars Nisar Memon and Wasim defended their thesis in final MPhil seminars. A number of scholars and teachers attended the seminars. Dr Ismaili said his varsity, a future oriented and unique institution, was committed to achieving excellence in undergraduate and graduate education, research and public service.
The university, he said, provided superior and comprehensive educational opportunities through doctoral and special professional programmers. He further said the University of Sindh contributed to advancement of society through research, creative activity and scholarly inquiry.
"The university promotes arts, benefits national economy serves the citizens through public programmers and is dedicated to production of quality human resource for the knowledge-driven development of the country," he said.
Vice Chancellor said over 10, 0000 students through affiliated colleges were enrolled with the university while 27,000 regular students were studying on the campus.
"Being in the competitive era, there is no option to research. Therefore, research activities must be encouraged and I will work towards it. This is our university and we all will have to work and make sincere efforts to make it fit for global competition, Dr Ismaili said.
Research is possible only when students take up fundamental sciences, he said, adding that the skill development programme of the varsity is ready in accordance with the industry and the national skill development programme.
The industry can easily absorb students as the curriculum is designed by it.
