President of Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), Iftikhar Ahmed Vohra has urged the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to extend the last date for filing of income tax returns and wealth statements as the taxpayers are facing immense hardships. President KCCI, in his statement on Thursday, emphasised FBR to restore the previous online system for filing of income tax returns to give relief to taxpayers who are trying to submit their returns online but the existing IRIS system continues to give errors.
The taxpayers are finding it difficult to submit their returns online via IRIS web portal, he maintained. The old system for filing income tax returns was functioning flawlessly and nobody faced any problems in filing their returns last year but this year, it has been replaced with complicated IRIS system, KCCI chief opined.
He said that Karachi Chamber has been receiving dozens of complaints everyday about the IRIS system and FBR authorities have already been informed about the grievances of the business community. FBR authorities should realise the seriousness of the situation and take certain remedial steps to provide relief to taxpayers and save the national exchequer from tax evasion.-PR
