Imam says he can’t change his blood relations with Inzamam

Pakistan opening batsman Imam ul Haq has said that he is now used to the pressure he gets for being nephew of Pakistan's former captain and current chief selector Inzamam ul Haq.

“I am used to it now. Initially when I was selected for the One Day International team, there was a lot of pressure back then, but I performed well and now I am confident and am looking forward for the upcoming tour of England,” said Imam, while speaking to former Pakistan captain turned commentator Ramiz Raja.

Imam made his international debut last year against Sri Lanka and was able to score a century in his first international appearance. Imam's selection sparked debate of nepotism in Pakistan cricket.

Ramiz Raja says ‘uncle Inzamam can relax’ after Imam’s stunning knock

Speaking about the nepotism allegations, Imam said that he cannot change his relations with Inzamam but can only shut the naysayers through his performance. “This is a reality that I am his [Inzamam] nephew. I cannot change my blood relations. The only thing I can do is to perform with the bat and play positively. There was a lot of talk when I was selected for the first time, but that came down when I made into the Test squad,” said Imam.

The newbie scored a hard fought knock of 74 unbeaten, taking his team to victory against debutant Ireland, in the one off Test match. Imam now eyes to repeat the same in the much anticipated tour of England.

“I am really looking forward for this tour [of England], and is hopeful to get good results during the tour,” he said. Pakistan will be facing England in the first Test match at the historic Lord’s on May 24.
