The proposals for establishment of Inland Water Transport Development Company for operating water transport in rivers and canals are under-consideration of the government, Provincial Minister for Irrigation Mian Yawar Zaman said here on Monday. He said on instructions of Chief Minister Punjab, work was being carried out expeditiously on the project of operating water transport for transportation of goods, travelling and tourism purposes.
He said the 11-member committee set up by Chief Minister Punjab would review all aspects of the project, adding the proposed company would supervise all the matters and issues in that regard. He was presiding over a meeting of the committee at Irrigation Secretariat, Secretary Irrigation Hassan Iqbal, Secretary Transport Shaukat Ali, Secretary Tourism, Managing Director Tourism Punjab, Chief Engineer Lahore and former Chairman Tasksforce on Maritime Industry Naeem Sarfaraz were present.
Naeem Sarfaraz gave a briefing to the committee regarding establishment of Inland Water Transport Development Company. Provincial Minister Mian Yawar Zaman while addressing the meeting said the government was looking for new means of communication to meet the growing needs of the people.
