White House condemns any threat against Stormy Daniels

WASHINGTON: The White House on Friday condemned any threat against porn actress Stormy Daniels, who is alleged to have had an affair with President Donald Trump.

After Daniels' lawyer claimed she was threatened with physical violence if she revealed details of the alleged tryst, the White House spoke out.

"Obviously we take the safety and security of any person seriously," said press secretary Sarah Sanders.

The White House "certainly would condemn anyone threatening any individual, but I have no knowledge of that situation," she said.

White House officials have tried to deflect questions about the alleged affair, pointing to previous denials by the Trump campaign.

The issue could hurt Trump with religious voters, who were key to his electoral success and appears to have already caused strains between the president and First Lady Melania Trump.

On July 12, court proceedings will get under way to decide whether Daniels can dissolve an agreement stopping her from discussing an affair she says she had with Trump before he became president.

Trump's long-time lawyer has admitted to paying Daniels $130,000 shortly before the election, but has not explained why.

Daniels' lawyers have claimed that was hush money that she wants to return.
