Shoaib Malik’s Multan Sultans will play their last match before the play-offs stage, as they will take on Misbahul Haq’s Islamabad United tonight at Pakistan Super League (PSL) while the tournament moves back to Sharjah.
The Sultans are at fourth spot at the points table with 9 points after losing and winning four matches each while one match was abandoned. Playing their tenth game tonight, this would be their last chance to cement their place in the top 4 and qualify for the play-offs.
After starting off well in the PSL third season, the Sultans have lost their last three matches consecutively, losing to Quetta Gladiators, Lahore Qalandars and Karachi Kings, respectively.
Their batting has been a major concern so far, as they have neither been able to impose huge enough targets, nor been good enough in run chase.
On the other hand, the Islamabad United have been on roll lately, sitting right at the top with 10 points while sharing the top spot with Quetta Gladiators for the time being. The United have won five matches so far while losing only two in their seven matches.
The arrival of New Zealand blaster Luke Ronchi and South African all rounder JP Duminy have done wonders for the side, allowing the United to impose massive targets on the board, and the side in all likelihood will make it into the playoffs stage.
