Chinese mobile company OPPO has recently gained quite a bit of popularity and has thus bagged the second place in the list of biggest smartphone manufacturer in emerging markets of Southeast Asia for 2017, reports suggest.

Latest reports from the market research firm International Data Corporation (IDC) show that the smartphone manufacturer OPPO has showed growth of more than 29% in 2017 and acquired the second rank in annual smartphone shipments for Southeast Asia.

As per South China Morning Post, the emerging markets tracked by IDC included Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam. OPPO maintained 17.2 million shipment volumes in 2017 with a 17.0% market share. “China’s smartphone market is a saturated space, and these brands are looking to overseas markets for more profitable growth. “Southeast Asia is important to the Chinese brands for the sheer size of its population,” said Jensen Ooi, senior market analyst at IDC’s Asia-Pacific devices research team.

Xiaomi beats Samsung to become largest smartphone maker

Though lessening the gap, the South Korean company Samsung Electronics still managed to stay on top and was given the first position in the IDC report with 29.3 million shipments and 29.1% market share. Vivo and Huawei followed OPPO by being ranked as the third and fourth biggest smartphone brands, respectively.

Globally ranked as the second largest smartphone marker, Apple, however, was ranked fifth in South-East Asia’s emerging markets with shipments of 4.5 million units for a 4.4% market share.

According to Tech Juice, OPPO is successfully becoming popular among young people, mainly for its camera. Moreover, OPPO aims to continue its loyalty in the South-East Asian region in future with its more new products.
