PESHAWAR: Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) has disconnected 351 high loss transformers across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa until outstanding dues are cleared.

According to a PESCO press release, the crackdown will continue until the outstanding arrears are recovered.

A circle wise breakdown shows that Khyber Circle recorded highest disconnections with 116 transformers cut off over Rs 117 million in arrears, followed by Swat Circle with 94 transformers disconnected over Rs 100 million arrears.

Additionally, Bannu Circle saw 41 transformers cut off due to Rs 40 million in unpaid bills, while Peshawar Circle had 8 transformers disconnected over Rs 22.5 million in defaults.

In Buner, PESCO disconnected 39 industrial and 5 domestic transformers, while 43 transformers in Shangla and 5 in Dir were disconnected for unpaid dues and electricity theft. In DI Khan Circle, 6 transformers were cut off in a single day.

To resolve the issue, PESCO officials are holding negotiations with affected consumers through Khuli Kachehris. Electricity supply is being restored promptly for consumers who settle the outstanding dues for their respective transformers.
