KARACHI: Sindh Governor Syed Muhammad Nehal Hashmi has extended heartfelt congratulations to the people of Gilgit-Baltistan on their 79th Independence Day, paying tribute to their historic struggle for freedom, sacrifices and unwavering commitment to Pakistan.
In his special message, the governor said the people of Gilgit-Baltistan had secured freedom through a historic struggle against Dogra rule before acceding to Pakistan. Their patriotism and sacrifices remained a source of pride for the entire nation, he added.
Highlighting the region’s development, Hashmi said former prime minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif had initiated several landmark infrastructure projects, including the expansion of the Karakoram Highway, construction and improvement of the Gilgit-Skardu Road and the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), which had contributed to better connectivity, economic activity and development opportunities.
He said several development initiatives were currently underway in Gilgit-Baltistan under the leadership of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, particularly in the energy, education and employment sectors.
The 16-megawatt Naltar hydropower project, a 100-megawatt solar energy project and the establishment of four Daanish Schools were among the key initiatives aimed at strengthening the region’s infrastructure, expanding educational opportunities and improving public welfare, he added.
The Governor described Gilgit-Baltistan as a precious national asset, blessed with spectacular natural beauty, immense tourism potential and talented people.
He emphasised that promoting the region’s prosperity and ensuring better opportunities for its people in education, energy and employment was a collective national responsibility.
