Consumer goods maker Hindustan Unilever reported a 6% rise in quarterly profit on Wednesday, as healthy demand cushioned the blow from higher raw material costs.
The Indian arm of the UK’s Unilever, home to brands such as Pepsodent and Dove, said it made a profit of 28.44 billion rupees ($299.01 million) for the quarter ended September 30, compared to 26.9 billion rupees a year earlier.
Indian consumer goods makers are seeking to drive growth through wider distribution, more premium products, as well as raising prices to counter higher costs of commodities such as sugar, edible oils and crude oil.
For Hindustan Unilever, product sales climbed 15% to 173.99 billion rupees, with volume growing 7% in the quarter through September 30.
“Indian economy remains resilient, with healthy macro indicators supporting a positive consumption environment,” said CEO and Managing Director Priya Nair.
