KARACHI: The weekly futures spread at PSX widened by 51 basis points to 5.79 percent, compared with 5.28 percent in the previous week.
The futures market in PSX recorded a decline in average daily share turnover, although its traded value increased. Average daily futures turnover fell 7.6 percent to 113.48 million shares from 122.76 million shares in the preceding week, a reduction of 9.28 million shares.
Despite the lower number of shares traded, average daily futures trade value rose 7.7 percent to Rs. 6.39 billion, equivalent to USD23.07 million, from Rs 5.93 billion, or USD21.41 million, previously. Thus, futures trading recorded a contrasting pattern: average daily share turnover decreased, but the value of transactions increased.
The widening of the weekly futures spread is driven by a combination of macro-economic uncertainty, shifts in investor leverage costs, and changing market dynamics during last week.
Increased market volatility made financing futures positions more expensive, while active trading consolidated into premium, high-value equities rather than speculative volume plays.
