HYDERABAD: President of the Hyderabad Chamber of Small Traders & Small Industry (HCSTSI) Nadeem Ahmed Siddiqui, Senior Vice President Muhammad Fahad Mian and Vice President Irfan Arbiani have expressed deep concern over armed robberies targeting goods transport drivers within the Jamshoro limits of the M-9 Motorway.
They stated that the reported incident near the Nooriabad incline, in which an incoming trailer from Karachi was allegedly stopped in the middle of the road by armed men, its driver held hostage, and cash and mobile phones snatched before the assailants fled, was a matter of serious concern.
In their joint statement, the office-bearers stated that the M-9 Motorway is a key route for the transportation of commercial goods between Karachi, Hyderabad and other cities, with a large number of goods vehicles using it daily to meet business and commercial requirements.
They emphasized that if drivers feel unsafe while travelling, the consequences can affect the entire commercial and industrial supply chain. Ensuring the safety of the lives and property of the business community and transport workers is a fundamental responsibility of the relevant authorities.
They urged the Inspector General of Police, Sindh, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Hyderabad, Jamshoro Police and senior officials of the Motorway Police to take immediate notice of the reported incident, conduct a transparent investigation, arrest the culprits and ensure the recovery of the stolen cash and other belongings.
They particularly called for increased police patrolling along the Nooriabad incline and other vulnerable locations, improved surveillance and checking arrangements, and prompt emergency assistance to prevent such incidents in the future.
