KARACHI: Sindh Minister for Local Government, Housing and Town Planning Syed Nasir Hussain Shah has said that PTI’s long march amounts to terrorism against the minds of the people, while the politics of confrontation, violence and unrest has become their practice.
He said every PTI rally turns violent, adding that the Pakistan Peoples Party had always opposed and condemned violent politics. He expressed these views while talking to the media at the inauguration ceremony of a 900-metre road in Scheme 33.
Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, the Director General of the KDA and local leadership of the Pakistan Peoples Party were also present on the occasion.
Nasir Hussain Shah said PTI leaders kept praising themselves and put their workers at risk before retreating themselves. He said Bilawal Bhutto-Zardarihad been the first person to oppose Governor’s Rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while the Chairman had stressed resolving issues through dialogue. However, he said the talks failed because of their [PTI’s] rigid attitude, while their violent and disruptive approach also contributed to the failure of negotiations.
The PPP leadership was still making efforts to resolve issues, he said, adding that the country could not afford any political unrest amid the prevailing economic and terrorism-related situation.
Nasir Hussain Shah said motorways around the world were generally developed from seaports, but the most important route had not been given due attention.
Motorways were being constructed in other provinces, while the Sukkur-Hyderabad motorway was being developed under a public-private partnership.
He said Sindh contributed 67 per cent to the federation economically, but the federal government provided only two per cent for development works in the province.
He added that not even one per cent had been provided to Sindh from 2013 to 2018.
Nasir Hussain Shah said the people of Karachi had rejected those who had put weapons in the hands of children, adding that the people of Karachi had not forgotten those involved in arson and violence.
He said the entire PPP leadership was working to realise the vision of Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, adding that a large number of development projects were nearing completion in Karachi, and inaugurations and groundbreaking ceremonies were being held on a daily basis, which, he said, were becoming a source of concern for the opponents.
He said provision of public facilities was the government’s top priority, adding that several projects scheduled for completion by June 2027 had already been completed and inaugurated ahead of schedule.
Work was underway on 150 small and large roads, he said, adding that the desalination plant was the first project of its kind in Pakistan and would improve water supply to the industrial sector.
Nasir Hussain Shah said development work was being carried out in various constituencies despite the PPP not having representation there.
He added that parks were being cleared of encroachments and converted into projects aimed at providing public facilities. Speaking to the media, Karachi Mayor MurtazaWahab said opponents always resorted to complaints, while the government invited the media to witness its performance.
He said Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari had inaugurated Pakistan’s largest desalination plant and the Block-3 coal-fired power project in Thar.
He added that a new sports complex would be inaugurated in Baldia, while a new project aimed at improving facilities at Jinnah Hospital had also been inaugurated.
MurtazaWahab said that even after losing elections, PPP candidates continued to remain at the forefront of development and public service in their respective areas.
