KARACHI: Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology (SSUET) held a pre-arrangement discussion to finalize plans for the upcoming Sir Syed Day, aiming to create a memorable and impactful celebration.
The meeting brought together key figures from the university and the Aligarh Muslim University Old Boys’ Association (AMUOBA) to discuss innovative ideas and proposals for the event.
Muhammad Akbar Ali Khan, President of AMUOBA and Chancellor of SSUET, asserted that, “As the university community prepares for Sir Syed Day, they remain committed to honouring the legacy of Sir Syed Ahmed Khan by fostering education and character development for future generations. This year’s event is set to be a momentous occasion, celebrating SSUET’s achievements and dedication to educational excellence.
We have achieved numerous significant milestones in a brief period.” He remarked there are plans in place to further enhance the university’s growth for the benefit of both students and staff.
Erum Akbar Ali Khan, Chairperson of the Zakir Ali Khan Foundation, stated that the foundation is dedicated to pursue the vision and mission of Zakir Ali Khan, who sought to promote education among middle-class youth.
He epitomized Aligarh culture, and his legacy has taught us invaluable lessons. He founded SSUET and AIT not only to provide education but also to focus on character development, which reflects our institution’s identity.
These educational institutions were founded on the ideology of Sir Syed Ahmed Khan, who advocated for accessible education for all.
She pointed out that, despite investing millions in a previous Campus Management System (CMS) that ultimately failed, we have successfully implemented a new CMS to promote a paperless culture at the university. Additionally, we took initiatives to start daycare center, presented a deficit-free budget, revised pay scales, and introduced health cards for senior members.
Plans are underway to establish Zakir Ali Khan University, a Law College, and a Nursing School, as we strive to fulfil the dreams of our ancestors.
Mrs. Erum Akbar Ali Khan underscored that we have faced challenges, including attempts to tarnish our reputation through false allegations.
While we never took notice to the personal attacks, yet we have firmly decided to defend our institution’s integrity against such defamatory claims.
It is essential to stand up for the institution when it is under threat, and we are committed to safeguarding for its credibility and prestige.
Adil Askari, Vice President of AMUOBA and Member of the Provincial Assembly, stated that institutions like SSUET are essential for cultivating an educated and civilized generation.
He noted that after NED, Sir Syed University was the only institution offering engineering programs, and he feels a strong sense of obligation to give back to the university that has shaped his life.
“What I am today is a result of my education at Sir Syed University,” he remarked. With over 80,000 alumni globally, Sir Syed University boasts graduates who hold prominent positions in prestigious organizations around the world.
Tariq Sabzwari, Convenor of the Literary Art and Culture Forum, condemned the coordinated campaign to undermine the university’s reputation, labeling the narratives circulating on social media narratives as “fake and baseless propaganda.” He highlighted the resilience of the institution in overcoming challenges and reaffirmed the commitment to uphold its values and mission.
