LAHORE: The Pakistan Association of Automotive Parts and Accessories Manufacturers (Paapam) has formally approached Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, seeking an urgent meeting to present the industry’s concerns and proposals regarding the draft Auto and Auto Parts Policy 2026–2031.

In its communication, the PAAPAM acknowledged the prime minister’s directive under which a high-level committee is conducting a clause-by-clause review of the draft policy.

While welcoming the review process, the association stressed that finalising the policy without meaningful consultation with industry stakeholders could pose serious risks to domestic manufacturing, employment generation, localisation and national self-reliance.

The PAAPAM urged the government to share the reviewed draft with industry stakeholders before its submission to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the federal Cabinet. The association said manufacturers and allied sectors possess valuable technical and practical expertise that could help strengthen the policy framework and ensure that it supports industrial growth and the long-term sustainability of Pakistan’s automotive ecosystem.

Highlighting the importance of the matter, the PAAPAM leadership requested an early meeting with the prime minister to present its concerns and proposals directly, before the committee completes its deliberations and the draft is placed before the Cabinet.

The PAAPAM, in its communication, reiterated its commitment to working closely with the government to ensure that the Auto and Auto Parts Policy 2026–2031 serves as a cornerstone for industrial development, employment creation, localisation and technological advancement.
