ISLAMABAD: The Consumer Price Index-based inflation has registered an increase of 10.3 percent on a year-on-year (YoY) basis in September 2026, as compared to an increase of 5.8 percent in September 2025 and 11.1 percentin the previous month.

According to CPI data released here on Thursday by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), on a Month-on-Month (MoM) basis, CPI increased by 1.3 percent in September 2026 as compared to an increase of 1.2 percent in the previous month and an increase of 2.1 percent in September 2025.

The data shows that CPI inflation (Urban) registered an increaseof 10.1 percent on a YoY basis in September 2026 as compared to an increase of 10.4 percent in the previous month and an increase of 5.7 percent in September 2025. On a MoM basis, it increased by 1.3 percent in September 2026 as compared to an increase of 0.9 percent in the previous month and an increase of 1.6 percent in September 2025.

CPI inflation (Rural) increased by 10.5 percent on a YoY basis in September 2026 as compared to an increase of 12.2 percent in the previous month and an increase of 5.9 percent recorded in September 2025. On a MoMbasis, it increased by 1.2 percent in September 2026 as compared to an increase of 1.6 percent in the previous month and an increase of 2.8 percent in September 2025.

The SPI-based inflation on a YoY basis increased by 8.4 percent in September 2026 as compared to an increase of 9.5 percent in the previous month and an increase of 4.5 percent in September 2025. On aMoM basis, it increased by 1 percent in September 2026 as compared to an increase of 0.9 percent in the previous month and an increase of 2 percent in September 2025.

Wholesale Price Index (WPI) inflation on a YoY basis increased by 13.3 percent in September 2026 as compared to an increase of 11.8 percent in the previous month and an increase of 0.6 percent in September 2025. On a MoMbasis, it increased by 1.9 percent in September 2026 as compared to an increase of 2 percent in the previous month and an increase of 0.5 percent in September 2025.

Measured by non-food, non-energy (Urban), inflationincreased by 8.6 percent on a YoY basis in September 2026 as compared to an increase of 8.8 percent in the previous month and an increase of 7 percent in September 2025. On a MoM basis, it increased by 0.2 percent in September 2026 as compared to an increase of 0.5 percent in the previous month and an increase of 0.3 percent in the corresponding month of last year, i.e., September 2025.

Measured by non-food, non-energy (Rural) inflationincreased by 8.1 percenton a YoY basis in September 2026 as compared to an increase of 8.5 percent in the previous month and an increase of 7.8 percent in September 2025. On a MoM basis, it increased by 0.2 percent in September 2026 as compared to 0.6 percent in the previous month and an increase of 0.6 percent in the corresponding month of 2025.

Measured by the 20% weighted trimmed mean,(Urban) inflation increased by 9.4 percent on a YoY basis in September 2026 as compared to an increase of 8.9 percent in the previous month and 5.7 percent in September 2025. On a MoM basis, it increased by 0.3 percent in September 2026 as compared to an increase of 0.4 percent a month earlier and an increase of 0.3 percent in the corresponding month of 2025.

Measured by the 20% weighted trimmed mean,(Rural)inflation increased by 9.4 percent on a YoY basis in September 2026 as compared to an increase of 9.1 percent in the previous month and 6.5% in September 2025. On a MoM basis, it increased by 0.4% in September 2026 as compared to an increase of 1.1 percent in the previous month and an increase of 0.7 percent in the corresponding month of 2025.

On a monthly basis, prices of the following food commodities witnessed an increase: onions 29.17 percent, wheat 3.86 percent, besan 2.74 percent, wheat flour 2.28 percent, pulse gram 1.82 percent, wheat products 1.60 percent, pulse masoor 1.56 percent, dry fruits 1.27 percent, mustard oil 0.98 percent, meat 0.78 percent, bakery and confectionery 0.77 percent, ready-made food 0.74 percent and cooking oil 0.55 percent.

Prices of the following food commodities witnessed a reduction: tomatoes 24.67 percent, chicken 8.14 percent, eggs 5.92 percent, potatoes 4.19 percent, pulse moong 2.09 percent, fresh vegetables 1.49 percent, beans 1.11 percent, sugar 0.88 percent, fresh fruits 0.32 percent and honey 0.03 percent.

On a monthly basis, prices of the following non-food commodities witnessed an increase: electricity charges 15.28 percent, motor fuel 10.76 percent, liquefied hydrocarbons 5.37 percent, accommodation services 2.26 percent, personal effects 1.24 percent, drugs/medicines 0.98 percent and woollen cloth 0.80 percent.

On a monthly basis, prices of the following non-food commodities witnessed a reduction: transport services 0.81 percent and textbooks 0.60 percent.

On an annual basis, prices of the following food commodities witnessed an increase: onions 125.48 percent, wheat 40.96 percent, wheat flour 31.71 percent, wheat products 16.03 percent, fresh fruits 14.75 percent, meat 14.68 percent, bakery and confectionery 10.63 percent, dry fruits 10.48 percent, milk products 9.12 percent, fresh milk 8.16 percent, vegetable ghee 7.96 percent and cooking oil 7.85 percent.

On an annual basis, prices of the following food commodities witnessed a reduction: potatoes 30.34 percent, chicken 20.92 percent, eggs 20.19 percent, sugar 19.94 percent, pulse gram 13.49 percent, besan 12.37 percent, gram whole 12.04 percent, beans 11.81 percent, pulse masoor 10.69 percent, pulse moong 8.61 percent, gur 4.30 percent and honey 0.02 percent.

On an annual basis, prices of the following non-food commodities witnessed an increase:** liquefied hydrocarbons 57.14 percent, motor vehicle tax 38.68 percent, motor fuel 37.73 percent, postal services 33.07 percent, electricity charges 32.46 percent, transport services 29.56 percent, footwear 29.27 percent, personal effects 19.54 percent, communication services 19.30 percent, newspapers 14.84 percent, major tools/equipment 14.26 percent and mechanical services 13.54 percent.

On an annual basis, only textbook prices witnessed a reduction, declining by 1.55 percent.

According to the WPI, the following commodities witnessed an increase on a monthly basis: motor spirit 12.40 percent, electrical energy 11.40 percent, kerosene oil 7.78 percent, diesel oil 7.36 percent, raw animal materials/wool 6.32 percent, furnace oil 6.25 percent, fibre crops 2.96 percent, wheat 2.71 percent, wheat flour 2.69 percent, other oilseeds 2.20 percent, oil cakes 2.01 percent, other cereal flour 1.78 percent and stimulant and spice crops 1.68 percent.

According to the WPI, the following commodities witnessed a reduction on a monthly basis: sorghum/jowar 8.54 percent, edible roots/potatoes 8.54 percent, fresh fruits 8.46 percent, poultry 6.30 percent, vegetables 2.80 percent, maize 2.71 percent, cement 2.05 percent, eggs 1.46 percent and sugar 1.44 percent.

According to the WPI, the following commodities witnessed an increase on a year-on-year (YoY) basis: kerosene oil 78.93 percent, diesel oil 61.45 percent, footwear 51.86 percent, furnace oil 47.82 percent, wheat 44.49 percent, motor spirit 42.77 percent, wheat flour 39.13 percent, mobil oil 27.76 percent, raw animal materials/wool 26.90 percent, woven fabrics 25.04 percent, sorghum/jowar 24.90 percent, fibre crops 21.66 percent and dried fruits and nuts 20.52 percent.

According to the WPI, the following commodities witnessed a reduction on a year-on-year (YoY) basis: edible roots/potatoes 44.38 percent, stimulant and spice crops 24.02 percent, refined sugar 21.62 percent, eggs 20.43 percent, poultry 17.48 percent, dry fruits 16.49 percent, other cereal flour 16.30 percent, millet/bajra 15.26 percent, pulses 14.76 percent, sugar crops 3.52 percent, cotton seeds 2.79 percent, timber 1.74 percent and synthetic carpets 1.71 percent.
