ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) strongly condemns the raids conducted on the residences of two sitting provincial ministers of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the subsequent arrest of a Member of the National Assembly from the province, the party statement said on Wednesday.
Tuesday night, the residence of the Minister for Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control, Syed Fakhar Jehan, was raided. In a separate action, a heavy police contingent raided the house of the Minister for Irrigation, Riaz Khan, in Buner.
Separately, the residence of Mohammad Zubair Khan Wazir, Member of the National Assembly from NA-42 South Waziristan Upper cum South Waziristan Lower, was surrounded for several hours by unidentified individuals. Family members present in the house were taken hostage. His residence was again raided by a heavy police force, and he was arrested following an exchange of fire.
These actions against elected representatives of the people constitute a grave assault on democratic norms, parliamentary privilege, and the rule of law. The targeting of sitting ministers and an MNA, and the holding of their families hostage, is unacceptable in any civilised society.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf demands that all police officials involved in these illegal raids be immediately identified and taken to task. The provincial government must constitute a thorough and impartial inquiry to establish the facts, expose those behind these raids, and bring the responsible individuals to justice.
The concerned authorities must also immediately ensure the safety, dignity, and well-being of the families of the affected representatives. PTI further calls upon the relevant institutions to act in accordance with the Constitution and the law, and to refrain from using force and intimidation against elected representatives and their families.
