KARACHI: Sindh Governor and Chancellor of NED University of Engineering and Technology Syed Muhammad Nehal Hashmi has urged young graduates to harness their knowledge, innovation and entrepreneurial skills to help transform Pakistan’s economy and strengthen its position in the global technology landscape.

Addressing the 35th Convocation of NED University as chief guest, the governor said the Prime Minister’s vision was to take Pakistan’s IT exports beyond USD25 billion by 2030. The country’s youth would be central to achieving the ambitious target. “Pakistan in 2047 will be in the hands of today’s youth,” Hashmi said, urging graduates to equip themselves with knowledge, skills and character so that the nation could take greater pride in their achievements in the future.

He said the graduates could help take Pakistan’s economy, technology and global identity to new heights through research, innovation, hard work and professional excellence.

“Education is not merely about obtaining a degree,” Hashmi said, stressing that knowledge, research and innovation must be translated into practical solutions for society and the country.

He urged graduates to enter professional life with confidence, courage and a sense of responsibility, while using their creative and critical abilities in a constructive and purposeful manner.

The Governor particularly encouraged young people to move beyond the traditional mindset of seeking employment and instead become job creators and entrepreneurs.

Hashmi said the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme was providing financial support to young people seeking to establish businesses through the Digital Youth Hub, and urged graduates to take advantage of such opportunities to turn innovative ideas into viable enterprises.

He said the rapidly changing global economy demanded continuous learning and adaptation, with the market increasingly rewarding talent, competence and innovation. Graduates, he added, must remain abreast of emerging technologies and changing professional requirements.

He called upon the graduates to set new goals, pursue fresh ideas and link their personal success with the progress of their families, society and the country.

The Governor concluded by praying for the success of the graduating students and expressing the hope that they would become a source of benefit and pride for Pakistan and humanity.

However, according to a university spokesperson, 40 scholars were awarded PhD degrees, 2,262 students received undergraduate degrees and 881 students were awarded master’s degrees.

Gold medals were presented to 34 students who secured first positions, while merit certificates were awarded to students securing second and third positions.

Founder of the Maan Jee Endowment Fund Engineer Aftab Rizvi, Dr Sarosh Hashmat, Saeed Iqbal Khan and other distinguished guests attended the convocation.
