KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s palm oil inventories hit an eight-month high in August as production surged to the highest level since December and exports declined, data from the industry regulator showed on Thursday.

Malaysia’s August palm oil stocks rose 7.48% from July to 2.82 million metric tons, extending gains for a fifth consecutive month.

Crude palm oil production increased 1.39% from July to reach 1.82 million tons, marking the third successive monthly gain and the highest level since December 2025.

Palm oil exports dropped 7.5% to 1.29 million tons, after two straight months of growth, the Malaysian Palm Oil Board said.

A Reuters survey had forecast August inventories at 2.76 million tons, with output seen at 1.82 million tons and exports at 1.32 million tons.
