LAHORE: The University of Lahore (UoL) will host a major international conference on September 3 to examine the strategic implications of the Makkah Defence Agreement for regional peace, stability, and economic cooperation amid shifting Middle East and South Asian security dynamics.

The event will bring together senior figures from Pakistan’s political, diplomatic, military, academic, and media circles, including Federal Minister Prof. Ahsan Iqbal, Punjab Assembly Speaker Malik Ahmad Khan, former Foreign Ministers Khurshid Mahmood Kasuri and Jalil Abbas Jillani, Federal Minister Dr. Mussadik Malik, Ulema Council Chairman Allama Tahir Ashrafi, Lt. General (Retd) Nasir Janjua, Senator Ali Zafar, Senator Sehar Kamran and LCCI President Faheem ur Rehman Sehgal, among others.

The conference will feature two roundtable discussions focusing on middle-power diplomacy and regional security architecture, alongside the agreement’s geo-strategic and economic dividends. Organised through UOL’s Centre for Security, Strategy and Policy Research and Centre for Policy and Nation Building, the event aims to provide an independent forum for informed debate on this significant regional development.
