Ship carrying 4,000 tonnes of LPG docks at Port Qasim

  • Development comes amid concerns over LPG shortage and rising prices in the country
Published Updated

A vessel carrying 4,000 metric tons of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) from Bahrain arrived at Port Qasim on October 24, as Pakistan faces supply shortages and rising prices of the fuel.

The vessel, Yellowstone, berthed at 8:42am, and port handling of the imported consignment has begun, the Port Qasim Authority (PQA) said in a press release on Sunday.

The authority said the shipment reflected Port Qasim’s role in meeting the energy requirements of domestic and commercial consumers.

The arrival comes amid concerns over LPG availability and rising prices in the country. LPG is widely used by households, particularly in areas without access to piped natural gas, as well as by commercial establishments.

The resumption of cross-border trade with Iran at the Gabd-Rimdan crossing on Saturday is also expected to facilitate the movement of stranded trucks carrying LPG and other essential commodities after a weeklong suspension.

The additional imported supply could help improve LPG availability, although its impact on retail prices will depend on the pace of distribution and prevailing market conditions.
