KARACHI: Abdul Wahid Sethi has assumed charge as the Acting President & Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Bank, effective August 21, following the completion of the tenure of the Bank’s previous President & CEO. The appointment has been made by the Finance Division in accordance with the Corporate Governance Regulatory Framework.

Sethi brings more than three decades of experience across Pakistan’s public and private sectors, with expertise in financial management, audit, risk, governance and internal controls. He has been associated with NBP since November 2009 and has held several senior leadership positions during his tenure.

Apart from assuming the role in an acting capacity, Sethi is also serving as Senior Executive Vice President (SEVP) and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of NBP, a position he has held since September 2017. Earlier, he served as SEVP/Group Chief of the Audit & Inspection Group and Secretary to the Board Audit & Compliance Committee, gaining extensive experience across the Bank’s financial, operational and governance functions.

Before joining NBP, Sethi held key positions in prominent public and private sector organizations. His professional experience includes serving as Internal Audit Specialist with the Punjab Government’s Education Department under a World Bank initiative focused on Public Financial Management and Internal Control. He also served as Head of Business Risk Services at Grant Thornton – AASR. Earlier, he worked with Sui Southern Gas Company Limited, New Allied Electronics (LG), and Harvest Smartend Securities.

A Fellow Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants since 2001, Sethi also holds an MBA in Finance from the Imperial College of Business Studies (ICBS), Lahore, which he earned in 1995.

Sethi’s assumption of the acting charge provides leadership continuity at NBP as the government proceeds with the process of appointing a permanent President & CEO. Drawing on his extensive institutional knowledge and professional expertise, he will oversee the Bank’s continued operations, financial management and adherence to sound governance practices.
