Pakistan-backed candidates win key ACC positions

  • ACC also approves Afghanistan cricket board among full members eligible for presidency
Published Updated

Pakistan-backed candidates secured key positions in the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) elections held during the body’s Annual General Meeting in Bangkok, Thailand, as members also approved Afghanistan’s inclusion in the presidency rotation.

According to the ACC, Khalid Al Zarooni, vice president of the Emirates Cricket Board, was unanimously elected vice president of the Council. Representatives from Qatar, Singapore, the Maldives and Bahrain were elected to the ACC Executive Board for the 2026-28 term.

The meeting also approved the Afghanistan Cricket Board’s inclusion among Full Member boards eligible to assume the ACC presidency. The position had previously rotated among Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and India.

ACC President Mohsin Naqvi said the decisions reflected the Council’s commitment to strengthening governance and promoting the collective development of cricket across Asia.

The meeting, attended by representatives of all ACC member countries, also approved committees for governance, administration, cricket development, competitions and finance.
