KARACHI: Repatriation of profits and dividends on foreign investment from Pakistan declined by 11.5 percent year-on-year (YoY) during the first month of the current fiscal year (FY27), the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) reported on Thursday.

According to the SBP, foreign investors repatriated a total of USD 261.4 million in profits and dividends from foreign direct investment (FDI) and portfolio investment in July 2026, compared with USD 295 million in the same month of 2025, marking a decline of USD 33.6 million.

However, repatriation remained significantly higher compared with June 2026, when foreign investors repatriated USD 151 million, reflecting an increase of 73 percent or USD 110 million.

The data showed that the bulk of the repatriated amount was attributable to FDI. However, in term of growth, FDI repatriation declined by around 14 percent year-on-year, falling to approximately USD 255 million in July 2026 from USD 294.8 million in the corresponding month of 2025, a decrease of USD 40 million.

The power sector accounted for the largest share of repatriation, with foreign investors taking out USD 73 million in July 2026, followed by the financial sector with an outflow of USD 62 million. The communication sector and tobacco and cigarettes industry were also among the top five sectors, with repatriations of USD 24 million and USD 14.6 million, respectively, during the period under review.
