ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Tuesday welcomed a Supreme Court order directing that jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan be shifted to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad and that a medical board of specialist doctors be constituted to conduct a comprehensive examination.
In a statement issued after the top court’s order, PTI said it reinforced the longstanding demand of Khan’s family, party and personal doctors that he be provided with the best available medical care under the supervision of qualified specialists.
The party expressed hope that the court’s directions would be implemented immediately and without delay.
It said Khan should be transferred to Shifa International Hospital, where a multidisciplinary medical board, including specialists in ophthalmology, cardiology and other relevant fields, should conduct a thorough assessment of his condition.
PTI said the inclusion of Khan’s personal physician, Dr Faisal Sultan, and his sister, Dr Uzma Khan, on the medical board would be important to ensure that his medical history, current symptoms and treatment were assessed comprehensively and objectively.
It also said Khan should, in accordance with the apex court’s directions, be given appropriate access to and meetings with his family, with his legal and fundamental rights and dignity fully respected.
The party appealed to party workers, office-bearers, supporters and Khan’s well-wishers to respect the court’s directions and refrain from gathering outside Shifa International Hospital.
The party called on all relevant authorities to implement the top court’s directions in letter and spirit and ensure that Khan receives the highest appropriate standard of medical care.
