ISLAMABAD: Security forces killed 32 terrorists linked to what Pakistan describes as Indian-sponsored groups during coordinated intelligence-based operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan over the past 24 hours.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the operations were carried out as part of the ongoing counterterrorism campaign under Azm-e-Istehkam against the groups referred to by Pakistan as Fitna al Khwarij and Fitna al Hindustan.
The ISPR said multiple intelligence-based area sanitisation and targeted operations were conducted overnight in Khyber district, where security forces engaged militants at different locations, killing 24 terrorists belonging to Fitna al Khwarij.
In a separate series of intelligence-based operations in Nushki district, Balochistan, security forces killed eight terrorists associated with Fitna al Hindustan following what the military described as an intense exchange of fire.
The military said weapons, ammunition and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) used by the terrorists were recovered and destroyed during the operations.
According to the ISPR, sanitisation operations are continuing to eliminate any remaining militants in the areas. It added that the counterterrorism campaign under the National Action Plan’s Azm-e-Istehkam vision would continue at full pace to eliminate what it described as foreign-sponsored terrorism from the country.
