Weather turns pleasant after Karachi receives season’s first monsoon showers.

KARACHI: Karachi has received its first monsoon rains on Friday night, driven by a persistent low-pressure system over Southwest Rajasthan that continues to pull strong monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea, the Met Office said on Saturday.

The system brought widespread rain and a sharp drop in daytime temperatures across Sindh on Saturday. Temperatures drop significantly across the province as low-pressure system persists; urban flooding alert issued for several districts.

According to the Met, the system will remain active until July 27. For Karachi, the forecast predicts mostly cloudy, warm, and humid weather over the next three days. Light rain or drizzle is expected in the city, with only isolated drizzle likely on Sunday and Monday. Daytime temperatures in the metropolis are expected to range between 33 and 36 degrees Celsius, with morning humidity around 78 percent and southwesterly winds prevailing.

For interior Sindh, the weather is set to be more intense. Thunderstorms with moderate to isolated heavy rainfall are likely in Tharparker, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Badin, Sanghar, Tando Muhammad Khan, Tando Allahyar, Hyderabad, Mityari, Jamshoro, and Shaheed Benazirabad Districts. Additionally, light to moderate dust-thunderstorms are expected in Ghotki, Kashmore, Jacobabad, Shikarpur, Sukkur, Kambar Shahdadkot, Larkana, Khairpur, Nosheferoz, and Thatta during the same period.

The actual rainfall recorded between the morning of July 24 and July 25 shows that Surjani Town received the highest amount in Karachi at 5.5 millimeters.
