ISLAMABAD: The Forum of Information Group Secretaries (FIGS) has expressed its sincere appreciations to the Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif, and the Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Attaullah Tarar, for taking personal interest in addressing the long-standing issue of career progression of Information Group officers.

The Forum highly appreciated their foresight in approving the creation of new posts in the Information Group, thereby removing a major bottleneck that had impeded the promotion prospects of officers for many years.

The Forum observed that this landmark decision reflects the Government’s recognition of the pivotal role performed by Information Group officers, who constitute the Government’s premier communication cadre entrusted with communicating government policies and programs, promoting public awareness, countering misinformation and disinformation, projecting Pakistan’s image at home and abroad, and building public confidence through credible and timely dissemination of information.

The Forum noted that strengthening the institutional capacity of the Information Group has become increasingly important in view of the rapidly evolving global media landscape. In an era characterized by digital communication, information warfare, social media and intense competition in the information domain. A strong and professionally motivated Information Group is indispensable for effectively projecting the Government’s policies, safeguarding Pakistan’s national narrative, and enhancing the country’s image internationally, the Forum added.

The creation of these new posts will also significantly improve the motivation, morale and professional commitment of Information Group officers and will enable the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to further strengthen its institutional capacity to meet emerging communication challenges and effectively serve the nation, the Forum stated

Syed Anwar Mahmood Chairman of the Forum observed that “the creation of these posts is a momentous and far-reaching decision that acknowledges the indispensable contribution of Information Group officers to national communication and governance and strengthening one of the country’s most important professional services which plays a critical role in strategic communication, narrative building and public diplomacy.
