KARACHI: The Sindh government has decided to take measures to counter negative and misleading propaganda on social media. Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said that a provincial-level cell should be established to prevent the spread of false and misleading information on social media and ensure accountability for those responsible.

An important meeting of the Information Department was chaired by Sindh Senior Minister and Provincial Minister for Information, Transport and Mass Transit Sharjeel Inam Memon in Karachi. The meeting was attended by Secretary Information Kashif Gulzar Sheikh, Director General Information Moiz Pirzada, Directors Muhammad Yousuf Kaburo, Hizbullah Memon, and other officials. The participants discussed strategies to counter negative and misleading propaganda on social media, as well as campaigns targeting national interests.

Addressing the meeting, Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said that certain elements are attempting to spread false and misleading information against the country and its national interests through social media platforms. He said that effective legal action against those involved in spreading false and misleading information is essential. He added that the Sindh government wants a dedicated provincial-level cell to be established to prevent cybercrime.

He said that freedom of expression is the constitutional right of every citizen, but false and misleading propaganda cannot be permitted under the guise of freedom of expression.

He further said that the timely and effective countering of false news and negative propaganda is the need of the hour. The Sindh government will take every possible step to safeguard national interests and promote the dissemination of accurate information.
