Pakistan’s Ghandhara Tyre clears key US regulatory requirement for exports

  • Pakistani tyre maker GTYR obtained US DOT certification, allowing it to export tyres to the United States.
Published Updated

Ghandhara Tyre & Rubber Company Limited (GTYR), a Pakistani tyre maker, has obtained US Department of Transportation (DOT) certification, allowing the company to export tyres to the United States.

The company shared the development in a notice to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Wednesday.

“The company has successfully registered with DOT (Department of Transportation) certification, enabling the company to export tyres to the United States. The company’s manufactured tyres comply with the applicable US Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards,” read the notice.

It is pertinent to mention that a US DOT certification verifies that drivers and vehicles comply with national safety standards set by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA).

GTYR said that the certification is in line with the company’s emphasis on expanding its export portfolio, exploring new international markets and strengthening its position in the global tyre industry.

Ghandhara Tyre & Rubber Company Limited: performance and outlook

“The company remains committed to capitalising on emerging opportunities and delivering sustainable value to its stakeholders,” it added.

Ghandhara Tyre & Rubber Company Limited, formerly known as The General Tyre & Rubber Company, was established as a private limited company in 1963 under the Companies Act, 1913 (later repealed by the Companies Ordinance, 1984). It was subsequently converted into a public limited company.

The company’s main business is the manufacturing and trading of tyres and tubes for automobiles and motorcycles.

In recent years, GTYR has actively diversified its product portfolio by introducing new tyre sizes for SUV/crossover segments and striving to increase export sales.

It partnered with China’s Shandong Huasheng Rubber Co., Ltd. (SHRC) to explore a joint venture in Pakistan for the manufacture, sale, marketing, and supply of truck bus radial and passenger car radial tyres, with a focus on export markets.
