KARACHI: The monsoon season has arrived across the country with forecast pointing to showers in Karachi as well. K-Electric (KE) urges citizens to prioritise safety and remain vigilant, particularly in areas where waterlogging becomes an issue.
With centralised monitoring of both weather patterns and the power supply situation, KE’s operational teams remain on alert. The company’s management is also closely coordinating with civic agencies and the city administration to ensure timely and effective response based on the Met Office’s forecasts as weather conditions evolve.
The utility acknowledges the challenges that rains bring for citizens and emphasises that public safety remains its top priority.
In preparation for the upcoming monsoon, KE has conducted preventative maintenance across its feeder network.
To strengthen the stability of the generation and transmission network, maintenance work has also been carried out across all grid stations that included replacing faulty connectors and busbars to ensure reliable power supply to the city.
Additionally, to improve its infrastructure resilience, KE has invested over PKR 1.2 billion in a series of safety enhancement projects aimed at improving the safety and reliability of its distribution network. The completed works included the replacement of over 1,100 poles, several PMT structures, earthing of over 2,000 service brackets, and the replacement of meters and busbars in 241 multi-storey building schemes. In addition, 5 kilometres of overhead lines were converted to underground infrastructure, insulators were installed on 3,997 pole stay units, and circuit breakers and distribution boards were replaced on over 250 PMTs.
KE spokesperson Imran Rana reiterated appeal to the public to maintain safe distance from electrical infrastructure, including poles, consumer service brackets outside homes, meters, and broken or entangled cable and internet wires, particularly in waterlogged areas.
“As monsoon activity is underway, ensuring public safety requires both operational vigilance and citizen responsibility. Strict adherence to safety procedures and timely coordination between utilities and civic bodies remain essential to minimising risk and maintaining urban resilience,” said Imran Rana.
“Extra care should also be taken inside homes. Avoid touching switches or wires that may have been exposed to rain. We strongly advise citizens to remain cautious around electricity infrastructure and promptly report emergencies so our teams can respond.”
