KARACHI: Pakistan Navy, in coordination with the Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA), rescued all 20 crew members from a cargo dhow that began sinking east of Ormara after experiencing severe flooding during its voyage from Karachi to the Gulf of Oman.
According to a statement issued by the Directorate General Public Relations (Navy) on Wednesday, the vessel encountered flooding while at sea, and deteriorating weather conditions rapidly worsened the situation, placing the crew in immediate danger.
Following receipt of the distress call, the Joint Maritime Information Coordination Centre (JMICC) coordinated with the Pakistan Navy to launch an immediate search and rescue operation.
Pakistan Navy deployed surface and air assets for the operation. PNS Hunain was diverted to the location of the distressed vessel, while a Sea King helicopter was simultaneously dispatched to provide aerial surveillance and support for the rescue mission. The Navy said all 20 crew members were safely recovered from the sinking dhow and are receiving the necessary medical care and attention.
According to the statement, the successful operation reflects Pakistan Navy’s readiness to respond to maritime emergencies and its commitment to ensuring the safety of life at sea.
