Punjab targets revenue growth without new taxes: minister
LAHORE: Punjab Finance Minister Mian Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman announced on Tuesday that the provincial government will meet its revenue targets in the new fiscal year without imposing any additional tax burden on citizens as he unveiled plans for the complete digitalisation of the tax system.
Addressing the Annual Strategic Conference of the Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA), the minister said transparency, effective enforcement and improved collection of existing taxes would remain top priorities, with a zero-tolerance policy against fake invoicing and tax evasion. He congratulated the PRA on collecting Rs 368 billion in FY2025-26, a 36 percent jump that added Rs 97 billion over the previous year, calling it proof of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s vision to reduce reliance on federal transfers.
PRA Chairman Moazzam Iqbal Sipra said the authority had recorded its highest-ever collection, crediting digital reforms and teamwork, and pledged further measures to strengthen transparency and institutional capacity in the current fiscal year.
