LAHORE: Parliamentary Secretary for Women Development Sadia Taimour on Tuesday said that 18 women development centres had been established in public sector universities across Punjab, describing the initiative as a transformative step towards the economic empowerment of women in the province.
Addressing the media, she said the centres were conceived under the directorate of women development, Punjab, with the primary objective of informing, educating, and facilitating women in planning their futures and acquiring the personal and professional skills necessary for financial independence.
These centres are not just a facility, they are a gateway for women to realise their true potential and take their rightful place in the workforce, Taimour said. She said the centres had been established in some of the most prominent public sector universities in Punjab, including GC University Lahore, University of the Punjab, Lahore College for Women University, Bahauddin Zakariya University Multan, and Fatima Jinnah Women University Rawalpindi, among others.
The parliamentary secretary said the centres offered structured training in CV writing, job hunting, web development, career planning, and research activities equipping women with tools directly relevant to today’s competitive job market.
She added that by anchoring these centres within university campuses, the government aimed to reach women at a critical stage of their development, ensuring they transitioned from education to employment with the confidence and preparation required to succeed. Sadia Taimour said the initiative was part of the provincial government’s broader commitment to dismantling the structural barriers that had long kept women from participating meaningfully in Pakistan’s economy, and that further expansion of the programme was under consideration.
