KARACHI: On the occasion of World Blood Donor Day, Alkhidmat has introduced an advanced blood screening NAT (Nucleic Acid Testing) system, Sunsure, in Karachi to strengthen blood safety and improve patient care.
The new system enables early detection of viruses and infectious agents in donated blood, significantly reducing the risk of transmitting serious diseases such as Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, and HIV to patients receiving blood transfusions. The introduction of this modern technology is expected to enhance the overall reliability and safety of the blood transfusion process.
An inauguration ceremony and seminar for the Advanced Blood Screening NAT System (Sunsure) were held on Saturday evening at Alkhidmat Diagnostic Services, Nazimabad.
The event was attended by Executive Director Alkhidmat Karachi Rashid Qureshi, Director Diagnostic Services Dr. Azeemuddin, Head of Department at Dow University’s Ojha Campus Dr. Uzma, Head of Business at Hora Pharma Muhammad Umair, Saqib Qazi, Chief Pathologist Dr. Zeeshan Hussain, Senior Manager Anwar Alam, other officials, and in-charges of blood banks from across the city.
The speakers highlighted that NAT screening is among the most effective tools in modern blood banking, making blood transfusions more secure and dependable. They noted that the system offers better protection for patients, especially those suffering from thalassemia, hemophilia, and other conditions that require regular blood transfusions.
The initiative was described as a significant step toward ensuring the availability of safe and healthy blood. The system was launched on World Blood Donor Day as part of broader efforts to improve healthcare standards and promote safe transfusion practices.
The speakers also emphasized the importance of raising awareness and encouraging voluntary blood donation among individuals aged 18 to 60 years. They noted that World Blood Donor Day is observed globally to recognize donors and promote donation, adding that a single blood donation can save up to three lives.
It was further highlighted that the newly introduced NAT screening system will allow blood banks across Karachi to access advanced screening services at highly affordable rates, ensuring safer blood transfusions for patients in need and strengthening the city’s blood banking infrastructure.
