LAHORE: The Consul-General of China in Lahore, Sun Yan, met the speaker of the Punjab Assembly, Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan, at the Assembly Chamber on Saturday.
They discussed Pakistan-China relations and avenues for enhancing bilateral cooperation across various sectors.
Speaking on the occasion, the Speaker said that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s recent visit to China had marked a significant milestone in Pakistan-China relations.
He noted that the meetings held with the Chinese leadership had been highly productive, meaningful, and outcome-oriented.
Malik Ahmad Khan emphasised the importance of timely implementation of the decisions reached during the visit, stating that effective execution was essential to fully realise the benefits of the agreements.
Highlighting the strategic partnership between the two countries, he said it served as a guarantee for a shared and prosperous future.
He described the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) as a catalyst for a new era of economic growth in Pakistan, adding that investment in the Special Economic Zones would generate employment opportunities and accelerate industrial development.
He said that the benefits of Pakistan-China economic cooperation must reach the people of both countries. The Speaker also underscored the role of parliamentary diplomacy in strengthening the longstanding brotherly ties, mutual trust, and cooperation between Pakistan and China.
“Under the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Pakistan-China economic cooperation is reaching new heights,” he said, adding that the friendship between the two countries had been time-tested, enduring, and ironclad. “China remains a reliable partner in Pakistan’s development and prosperity.
Chinese Consul-General Sun Yan reaffirmed China’s commitment to further expanding bilateral relations with Pakistan.
He said that enhanced educational and cultural exchanges would bring the people of the two countries closer and help deepen mutual understanding.
He also expressed confidence that cooperation between Pakistan and China across various sectors would continue to expand in the coming years.
