KARACHI: Spokesperson for the Government of Sindh Sukhdev Hemnani has said that the Sindh Government is actively considering a range of relief measures for workers, low-income families and other underprivileged segments in the upcoming provincial budget, including a substantial increase in the minimum wage.
He said that as per the instructions of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari to provide maximum relief to the masses, efforts are under way to create maximum fiscal space for meaningful public relief while maintaining fiscal discipline.
Hemnani said that Sindh has remained at the forefront of protecting workers’ rights and welfare. He noted that since 2008, the minimum wage has increased from Rs6,000 to Rs40,000, while Sindh remains the only province in the country to have increased the minimum wage six consecutive times.
He said that the Sindh Government has continued to strengthen protections for vulnerable workers through progressive legislation. In this regard, the Sindh Assembly recently passed the Domestic Workers Welfare Bill 2025, bringing domestic workers under a formal legal protection framework. The law provides safeguards relating to working conditions, regulated working hours and rest periods, while prohibiting the employment of children in domestic work and ensuring greater dignity and security for household workers across the province.
“Pakistan Peoples Party has always stood with workers, labourers and underprivileged communities. Under the leadership of Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, the Sindh Government will continue pursuing people-centric policies aimed at strengthening workers’ rights, improving living standards and ensuring inclusive economic growth,” Hemnani said.
