LAHORE: Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) Pakistan chief Engr Hafiz Naeemur Rehman condemned the killing of Abdul Basit Soomro in Gulistan-i-Jauhar, describing the incident as proof that the justice system in Sindh had already “collapsed”.
According to media cell of JI at Mansoora, Hafiz Naeemur Rehman visited the residence of the deceased in Block 8 near Magasi Chowk, where he offered condolences to the family. The slain youth was the son of JI candidate member Sadiq Soomro and nephew of Bhittaiabad circle nazim Ameen Soomro.
Speaking on the occasion, the JI chief said Karachi was once again witnessing a rise in violence and killings. “Basit Soomro’s murder is evidence of the death of justice in Sindh,” he said, adding that ordinary citizens’ lives, honour and property were no longer safe in the province.
He criticised the Pakistan Peoples Party government, saying its 18-year rule in Sindh had brought “nothing but dead bodies, fear, insecurity and destruction” to the people.
He said lawlessness and injustice had reached alarming levels, while citizens felt increasingly unprotected. “What kind of system allows influential individuals to engage in hooliganism on the streets, assault and kill citizens, while the law remains a silent spectator?” he asked.
Referring to cases including those of Ameer Bux Chandio, Nazim Jokhio and incidents of so-called karo-kari killings, he said that influential individuals linked with the ruling party were involved in serious crimes and continued to enjoy impunity under political patronage.
The JI chief warned that conditions could worsen if the public did not unite against what he termed an unjust system. He urged the people of Karachi and Sindh to raise a collective voice against oppression, violence and incompetence.
He also called upon law enforcement agencies to immediately arrest Abdul Basit Soomro’s killers and ensure exemplary punishment, warning that failure to do so would further erode public trust in the state and legal system.
Separately, Naeemur Rehman, accompanied by Karachi JI leader and opposition leader in the city council Saifuddin Advocate, visited the residence of Mubashir Hafizul Haq to offer condolences over the death of his elder brother, Izharul Haq, a former union council chairman.
