Deployment of troops, jets to Saudi Arabia: Pakistan dismisses ‘speculative framing’

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Monday dismissed what security sources described as “speculative framing” in a recent Reuters report regarding deployment of Pakistani troops and fighter jets to Saudi Arabia, saying the story misrepresented the longstanding and institutionalized nature of defence cooperation between the two countries.

Security sources said bilateral military cooperation between Pakistan and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) was conducted under pre-existing formal defence agreements and should not be linked to evolving regional conflicts or temporary geopolitical developments.

“The recent reporting by Reuters regarding the deployment of Pakistani troops and fighter jets to Saudi Arabia must be contextualized within the long-standing, transparent and institutionalized framework of bilateral relations between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia,” the sources said.

They maintained that attempts to connect routine defence cooperation with current regional tensions ignored the “historic, strategic and treaty-bound” foundations of Pakistan-KSA ties.

“Speculative framing that links these routine and treaty-bound engagements to specific, evolving regional conflicts misrepresents the foundational principles of the Pakistan-KSA strategic partnership,” the sources added.

According to the sources, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia share a “time-tested and deep-rooted brotherhood” based on religious, cultural, political and economic convergence rather than short-term geopolitical calculations.
