KARACHI: A major initiative has been launched in Sindh to promote modern research in agriculture, space science, climate change and environmental studies. The initiative aims to support the agriculture sector through modern scientific tools and strengthen research in GIS, remote sensing, climate resilience and environmental monitoring.

In this regard, the first formal follow-up meeting was held after the recent signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University, Shaheed Benazirabad, Nawabshah, and the Maulana Muhammad Bashir Farooqui Centre for Space Science, Climatology and Environmental Technology.

The meeting took place at the Directorate of Imam Ahmed Raza University of Emerging Sciences and Technologies, located at the Head Office of Saylani Welfare International Trust in Karachi.

The MoU was signed on April 16, 2026, between Vice Chancellor of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University, Engineer Professor Madad Ali Shah, and Director of the Maulana Bashir Farooqui Centre for Space Science, Climatology and Environmental Technology, Professor Dr. Muhammad Ayub Khan Yousufzai. The agreement is aimed at strengthening academic and research collaboration between the two institutions.

Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University was represented in the meeting by Dr. Arman Khanzada, Director, Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization, and Dr. Javed Ahmed Shaikh. From the host institution, the meeting was led by Professor Dr. Faisal Ahmed Khan Afridi, Deputy Director of the Maulana Bashir Farooqui Centre for Space Science, Climatology and Environmental Technology.

During the meeting, both sides discussed joint research projects, conferences, workshops, seminars, training programs, laboratory equipment, climate data sharing and access to library resources. Special focus was placed on preparing joint research proposals in the fields of space science applications, climate resilience, GIS, remote sensing and environmental monitoring for the agricultural and ecological regions of Sindh.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Arman Khanzada said Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University is committed to promoting research that contributes to solving real-world challenges. He said the collaboration would create new opportunities for faculty members and students in the important fields of space science, climate change and environmental sciences.
