As Karachi prepares for an intense heatwave, concerns are natural. This year’s risk is compounded by global climate patterns. According to the World Meteorological Organization, 2026 is projected to be more vulnerable to extreme heat due to a strengthening Super El Niño condition, which is expected to drive higher temperatures worldwide.
However, it seems Karachi is better preparing this time. Public utilities appear ready and visible efforts can be seen to manage electricity and water supply. However, in such extreme weather, reliable power and water supplies are essential and the ball cannot be dropped. Even small improvements can make a big difference in daily life. At the same time, citizens must also play their part by conserving resources and following safety guidelines.
Due to increasing climate impacts on Karachi, we need to stand united more than ever and address these challenges collectively at the broader level. With that shared commitment, we can get through this together and show our resilience.
