ISLAMABAD: The federal government on Thursday announced an increase in ex-depot price of petrol by Rs6.51 per litre and high-speed diesel (HSD) by Rs19.39 per litre effective May 1, 2026, according to a statement issued by the Petroleum Division.

Following the increase, the price of petrol has jumped from Rs393.35 to 399.86 per litre while the HSD price now stands at Rs399.58 per litre.

However, the rate of kerosene oil is reduced by Rs 4.45 per litre to Rs 360.76 per litre,

The government adjusted petroleum levy (PL) on petroleum products to meet the budgeted target of Rs 1.4 trillion for current fiscal year. The levy on HSD has been fixed at Rs 28.69 per litre which was earlier zero.

The levy on petrol has been reduced by Rs 3.88 per litre. The levy rate at HOBC stands unchanged at Rs 305.37 per litre.

Similarly, on kerosene oil the levy is Rs 20.36 per litre and on Light Diesel Oil (LDO) Rs 15.84 per litre.

The ex-refinery price of petrol has been estimated at Rs 6.79 per litre and Rs 9.69 per litre on HSD, according to estimates of local refineries. There is no change in premium on petrol at USD19.50 per bbl and USD52.89 per bbl on HSD as compare with previous review of petroleum prices.

HSD: The FOB-based supply cost rose by USD5.56 per bbl, climbing from USD153.93 to USD159.49 per bbl. Petrol: Similarly, the supply cost for petrol increased by USD4.88 per bbl, moving from USD132.78 to USD137.66 per bbl. Global oil benchmark Brent crude future were down USD2.05 to USD115.98 per bbl after touching of USD126.41 per bbl, highest since March 9, 2022.
