ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has waived fee on up to 25 KW net metering applications on the request of Power Division.
According to an official notification issued on April 28, 2026, the regulator has specified that applications for facilities with a capacity of up to 25 kilowatts will be exempted from any fee. However, projects exceeding 25 kilowatts will be subject to a one-time fee of Rs 1,000 per kilowatt, payable in favour of NEPRA.
The notification has been issued under the powers conferred by Schedule-IV read with Regulation 4(2) (b) of the NEPRA (Prosumers) Regulations, 2026.
It outlines the requirements for applicants seeking regulatory concurrence for installation and operation of distributed generation systems, a key component of Pakistan’s evolving prosumer framework.

NEPRA further clarified that the notification will be deemed effective from February 9, 2026, indicating retrospective applicability.
A couple of days ago Power Division wrote a letter to NEPRA on the instructions of Power Minister, Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari requesting for withdrawal of notification of fee on net metering applications at Rs 1000/KW.
