KARACHI: Chairman and Founder of Saylani Welfare International Trust, Maulana Muhammad Bashir Farooq Qadri, has called for the introduction of stricter laws against drug trafficking in Pakistan, including the death penalty.

Highlighting the alarming rise in narcotics use, he stated that, according to media reports, approximately 3 million students across educational institutions in Pakistan are affected by drug abuse.

Drawing a comparison with Saudi Arabia, where drug trafficking is punishable by death; he questioned why similar legislation cannot be implemented in Pakistan. He emphasized the urgent need for decisive action against drug dealers and called for the enactment of stringent laws to curb this growing menace.

He expressed these views while addressing a high-level delegation of senior government officers who visited the Saylani Head Office. The 32-member delegation, belonging to the 39th Senior Management Course, visited under the auspices of the National Institute of Public Administration (NIPA) and appreciated Saylani’s wide-ranging humanitarian services, assuring their full cooperation.

Upon arrival, the delegation was warmly received by Saylani’s Chief Operating Officer Muhammad Ghazal, Head of Saylani Education Board Afzal Chamadia, Trustee Arif Lakhani, Syed Abu Faisal, and other departmental heads. The delegation was given a comprehensive tour of administrative offices, including the Job Bank, Welfare Department, Medical Services, and IT training classes.

During the visit, hundreds of applicants were observed seeking assistance for their issues, as per routine operations. Members of the delegation interacted directly with beneficiaries and closely observed the transparent procedures adopted by Saylani. They were briefed on the thorough verification process carried out before extending any support, ensuring that assistance is provided only after positive recommendations from relevant committees.

Later, the delegation met with Maulana Bashir Farooq Qadri, who expressed his gratitude for their visit. Addressing the participants, he remarked that government officers have been entrusted with the responsibility of serving humanity, while Saylani has voluntarily dedicated itself to this cause. He urged the bureaucracy, welfare organizations, and state institutions to work collectively, simplify processes, and support one another in addressing public issues.

Earlier, Afzal Chamadia briefed the delegation on Saylani’s IT initiatives and expansive educational network, while Syed Abu Faisal highlighted the organization’s clean water projects. At the conclusion of the visit, shields were distributed among the delegation members.
