LAHORE: The Lahore district administration has further intensified the price control campaign across the city to ensure the provision of essential commodities to citizens at fixed rates.
According to the administration on Tuesday, district teams conducted inspections at 4,748 locations in various parts of the city, during which immediate action was taken upon finding 44 violations of price manipulation and overcharging. During the crackdown, fines of Rs218,000 were imposed on lawbreakers, while seven individuals involved in serious overcharging were arrested on the spot.
The admin claimed that due to the continuous monitoring and field activities of the district administration, the prices of basic vegetables, such as potatoes, onions, and tomatoes, have become stable in the market, while a decrease in the prices of garlic, okra, and pumpkin was also recorded.
District Commissioner Lahore Captain Muhammad Ali Ijaz (R) directed all price control magistrates to ensure strict implementation of the ‘zero tolerance policy’ on overcharging and to show no leniency toward elements involved in hoarding. He added that the process of supply and demand in vegetable markets is being constantly monitored, and by improving the supply chain, the balance of prices in the market is maintained; this crackdown will continue indiscriminately for the relief of citizens.
